Serena Hay

Serena obtained a degree in Aeronautical Engineering from Glasgow University and went on to complete the Postgraduate Diploma in Education (secondary mathematics).  
 
She is a lecturer at City of Glasgow College and has worked in this college across campuses since September 2014. She had one year gap when she taught students of various nationalities and ages a broad range of subjects set within the curriculum for England and Wales in an international school on the Island of Koh Samui, Thailand. Before leaving Thailand she was promoted to head of numeracy, supporting the other teachers and hosting maths club to all year groups within the school.
 
An experienced teacher and lecturer, she is now a maths lecturer for Nautical and STEM at the college’s Riverside campus. She has several academic guidances classes and also teaches a small number of Engineering units such as thermodynamics.
 
She loves learning and teaching and is inspired every day by her students' achievements, not only whilst they are in college but during their sea phases and into their future careers.
 
Her tandem passion is for equality and justice and has thrived as trade union member, activist through to rep and now associate branch secretary. Representing members and meeting regularly with Senior Management Team. Serena has also taken part in a number of campaigns fighting for the future of FE and for fair work.
