College Laptop borrowing for students - student card required to borrow
Purpose - to support academic success, City of Glasgow College offers short-term laptop loans to enrolled students. Laptops are available for borrowing under two borrowing types:
- two-day take home loan
- one-day in college only loan
1. Eligibility
- Only currently enrolled students with a valid City of Glasgow College student ID card are eligible to borrow laptops.
- Borrowers must agree to the acceptable use policy prior to borrowing a device.
2. Loan types
Two-day Loan - available from CitySA, 2nd floor self-checkout lockers at City Campus
- Duration: 2 calendar days (48 hours) from the time of checkout.
- Purpose: For academic work that may require use off-campus or after college hours.
- Limit: One laptop per student at a time.
- Renewals: Not permitted. Students must return and re-checkout if eligible.
Same-day (College Use Only) Loan - available from 3rd floor self-checkout lockers at City Campus Library and Riverside Campus Library service point
- Duration: Must be returned the same day before closing hours.
- Purpose: For on-campus use only.
- Limit: One laptop per student at a time.
- Overnight use: Not allowed.
3. Borrowing Procedure
- Students must have their student ID card at the self-checkout lockers at CitySA or Level 3 of City Campus Library
- Follow the instructions on the checkout monitor for borrowing and returning a laptop
- You must agree to the acceptable use policy before borrowing a laptop
- Availability is on a first-come, first-served basis
- Light will flash on locker for student to open, unplug laptop, remove laptop
- Be sure to close the locker door correctly
- You MUST log in to the college network on the laptop before you leave the college network
- Borrow a laptop charger from Library Level 4 if you intend to borrow a two-day laptop
- Receipt is automatically emailed to student email address
4. Returning Procedure
- Laptops must be returned to the designated self-checkout locker where it was borrowed
- Click on Return
- Scan student card
- Light will flash on locker and can open
- You must plug the laptop in to the locker charger when you return and close the locker door properly
- Return charger to Library Level 4 if you have borrowed a two-day laptop
- Close locker door
- Receipt is automatically emailed to student email address
5. Responsibilities of Borrowers
- Laptops must be returned in the same condition as issued
- Do not leave laptops unattended at any time; you are responsible for the safe keeping of the laptop
- Students are responsible for saving their work; do not save work on the laptop
- Loss, theft, or damage must be reported immediately; students may be held financially responsible
- Students must not install unauthorised software or tamper with the device settings
6. Fines and Penalties
- Two-Day Loan Late Return: No fine, will be suspended from borrowing; non-return of laptop you will need to pay for the replacement cost of the laptop
- Same-Day Loan Late Return: No fine, will be suspended from borrowing; non-return of laptop you will need to pay for the replacement cost of the laptop
- Loss or Damage or Non-return: Students will be charged the full repair or replacement cost for the laptop
- Repeated violations will result in borrowing privileges being removed

Acceptable Use Policy (AUP)
All users are bound by the City of Glasgow College IT Acceptable Use Policy. Each laptop locker contains a laptop and charger for borrowing. Only one laptop loan per person is permitted. Laptops and chargers must be returned to the correct laptop locker. The laptop is not returned and removed from your account until you reconnect the power lead provided in the locker. If the laptop is returned late, the library reserves the right to restrict your borrowing privileges. You are responsible for the safety and security of the laptop. In the event a laptop is lost, stolen, returned damaged, or with parts missing, users may be liable for the cost of replacement or repair up to a maximum of £1,600. In the event of a fault with the borrowed laptop, please let CitySA or Library Services staff know as soon as possible.
